Food Secure Canada is asking for your support to help pass Bill S-228. This bill is to introduce legislation to restrict food and beverage marketing to children under the age of 12. It is estimated that one in three children in Canada are overweight or obese. Furthermore 70% of children are not meeting the minimum daily requirement for fruit and vegetable consumption. Therefore protecting children from exposure to persuasive advertisement for food and beverages is an urgent public healthy priority.
Research has shown that food and beverage marketing to children affects the foods they request and prefer. This is why we need our Senators to vote for Bill S-228 to restrict the marketing of foods high in salt, sugar and/or saturated fat to children 12 and under. Add your voice and tell Senators to vote NOW, NSHFSA has! https://www.heartandstroke.ca/get-involved/advocate/help-restrict-marketing-to-children
